baby names list

To make it a bit easier for you to pick a beautiful and suitable baby name, here’s a checklist:

Questions in advance:

  • How many names will our baby receive?
  • What will be the baby’s last name?
  • Do we want a short name or a long one?
  • Are we going to name our baby after someone?
  • Do we want a popular name or not?
  • Do we think the meaning of the name is important?
  • Does the name have to have a certain origin?

Once you’ve found a name:

  • Is the name easy to pronounce?
  • Is the name easy to spell?
  • Are the chances of being teased with this name slim?
  • Is it possible for others to come up with negative nicknames easily?
  • Is the name too exotic and therefore hard for your child to explain?
  • Do the initials form undesirable combinations?
  • Is the name easy to pronounce for foreigners?
  • Does the name have a strange meaning in another language?
  • If you’re having twins or triplets, is there enough difference between all of the names?
  • Will the name sound too childish once your child has become an adult?
  • Do the lengths of the first and last names go together?
  • Does the combination of the first and last name have a good ring to it?
  • Is the name too feminine or masculine?

It will be hard to find a name that satisfies all the requirements on the checklist. That’s OK, though. It’s up to you to decide what things you think are important and which ones you don’t put that much value on.
