The hottest baby names of 2012 are in!

As predicted, Sophia and Jacob reign supreme once again. In fact, America loves Sophia SO MUCH, it landed on the top 20 twice, at #1, and # 18 (spelled Sofia)! As for the boys, it was a nail-biter this year: only 43 births separated the #1 Jacob from Mason, in the #2 spot. This is Jacob’s 14th year in the #1 spot, while it is the second year for Sophia.

Among the highest risers on both the girls and boys list are Latino influenced names; Gael for boys and Perla for girls.

Names Influenced by Pop Culture
Arya, which most will recognize from The Game of Thrones series, proved to be the highest rising girls’ name of the year. For boys, the fastest climber was Major. In fact, all names promoting “monarchy” and “hierarchy” seemed to rise in popularity across the boards: Messiah, Mack, Maverick and King also climbed the ranks from last year.

It’s All Greek to Us!
As predicted, Greek names were hot, and not only Greek names, but Greek terminology played a large part in the Top baby names this year. Names like Apollo and Titan were super popular.

The Vowels Have It!
Many popular names this year started with A, such as climbers Aria, Arabella, Ariel/Arielle, and Ari, Armani, and Archer rose for boys. Other strong vowel-influenced names, such as Liam, Mila, Lily and Aubrey resonated with parents.

Other names that were the fastest rising on the charts: Catalina, Elisa, Raelynn/ Raelyn, Rosalie, Haven, Briella, Marilyn. For boys: Jase, Brantley, Iker, Rory.
