in the last 2 years Alley has had several cell phones her mom and god mother have gotten for her and she inevitably ends up haivng trouble charging them. the charger won’t work, the phone dies quickly, the correct charger won’t stay in the port. she had my old phone (less than a year old) for a month and now it won’t hold a charge for anything.

five phones later it can’t be a fluke, she has to be doing something, but i have no idea what, any ideaas?

Does she bring it into the bathroom with her when she showers? Possibly the steam is corroding the port or an internal part.

Is she using a cheap charger? I know cheap-o plugs and wires for electronics can kill them.

she does take it into the bathroom sometimes. we’ll see if stopping it helps!

@magster, i dont know what brand hers is but hubby says its the same kind everyone else in the house is using. i’ve used it the charge my phone and it works fine.

I know charging a device constantly can also kill the battery. I kind of doubt a kid is leaving a phone plugged in constantly when it’s already charged, but that’s the only other thing I know of.

That’s odd. Let us know if/when you figure it out!

She may not be taking enough care when plugging in/removing the charger. One of the corners of the charging area on my ipod is chipped. The off-brand charger I have for it doesn’t have the “locks” on the side and won’t work anymore becuase it doesn’t stay in place/connected. (Luckily that’s only my work charger and I have an apple charger at home that does stay in place/connected.)

I suggest taking the phone to a store (BestBuy, Radioshack, respective service provider [AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc]), see if they have any ideas as to what’s going on. …She may not like it, but could get her a “rugged” type as her next phone. Or she can pay for her own phone, depending on her age.

I was going to say the same thing as Magster about leaving them plugged in all of the time.

she doesnt leave it pluggged in all the time but, like most 13 yos, she’s glued to the stupid thing almost 24/7 so i know she doesnt let it charge completely all the time.

i think pokeyninja maybe right, they were never really been expected to take care of their belongings when they lived with their mom, so it makes sense.

we’re about to chancge carriers so we might all have to get new phones and i’m going to tell her she needs to take extra good care of the one she gets b/c it’s the one she’s goign to be stuck with for at least 2 years!

This might sound stupid but, are you replacing the batteries? Or regardless if there is a new battery the phone won’t hold charge?

We have somewhat of the same problem. PokeyNinja’s idea might be part of it.

Also if shes using it while its charging and pulling the cord tight can jack up the port. Shes 13 so its hard but when it’s charging it needs to just sit and charge. I say this totally hypocritically though.

My husband and niece has Hyperhidrosis, it’s a condition where a person’s hand sweats uncontrollably! Both have ruined phones just by holding them, and the first sign was always they don’t hold the charge! They both have Kyocera DuraXT it is the only phone they have had for two years that has not gotten ruined by their conditions!

That’s so weird! I agree with taking it to the store to see if they can figure it out.
    And Momkey, that’s really interesting.

My husbands is so bad that he has to put a dry towel between his hand and the paper when he writes, even something as small as a check, otherwise the paper will get saturated! Keeping in mind, my husband is not tech savvy, so he does not have an Iphone, or Android! The flip phone is what he prefers!
