for your kids (or nanny charges, niece/nephews, etc.)?

I was just thinking, even though Alexander’s official nn is Alex, I quite often call him Lex or Alexei (or Lexicon …). William mostly gets called Will but I also call him Willbeans, for no real reason, or occasionally Will-Gabe, when I’m being Southern. ;)

Erm, I don’t have kids yet, but I do have adorable little second cousins, and I babysit a lot at church (what can I say?! All the little kids flock to me! haha). I feel less comfortable giving them my own nicknames, since they’re not my kids (and not even my siblings’ kids), but anyways. If I notice someone using a nn, I usually follow suit:

    Isabel (no nn)
Delaney and Kylee “Laney and Kylee”
Destiny and Edyn “Destiny and Edie”
Destiny, Adriel, Daniel, Jadiel, and Sharlyn (all my pastor’s kids, and all adopted! They’re so cute. :) ) Daniel’s the only one with a nn–Danny!)
Benjamin and Brenna “Ben and Brenna”
    Lyla and Jack
    Ryan and Zachary
Alaina and Brayden “Laina and Brayden” (although I might try to sneak Brady in, as it’s infinitely cuter than Brayden, imo! :) )
    Milana

I’m abysmally bad at nicknaming children, I suppose! I have no problem doing it with adults, though, haha!

Natalie got Tallie, which turned into Tallulah, which turned into Lulu. (And I swear, every time I see her I want to yell out “Tally ho!” bahahaha. I figure, for the sake of my safety, I probably shouldn’t. :) )

Carol gets Carolina, and pretty much just Carolina. A former coworker of mine, and I thought Carolina was much cooler and prettier than just Carol, so one day I asked her if she minded, and she’s been Carolina ever since, haha.

I feel like I need to be really familiar/comfortable with the person (or the child’s parents!) before I go all crazy on the nicknaming front. I do tend to elongate people’s names rather than shorten them, though. i.e. Carol to Carolina… I’ve called Tallie Natalia on several occasions, etc.

I’m sure I’ll be much crazier with my own kids’ names, haha.

If we have a girl, her name will be Noemi and I will probably use Emmi as a nickname. I don’t know what to use for a nickname for our boy name, Cenon. I might have my family call him by his middle name (Luis).

My nieces and nephews are: Guadalupe (Lupe), Anthony (Tony), Daniel (Dany), Heliel, Kelly, Loremy, and Vivian Andrea.

My brother’s real first name is Vinny (not Vincent) and he has people call him Vinster. My name is Jennifer and have been called Jen or Jenni.

Jack: we just call him Jack or sometimes Buddy
Isabella: only call her Bella – she does not like Isabella. We also call her baby girl

One of the reasons my husband and I liked Ethan’s name was due to the lack of obvious nicknames. Other than Ethan, we sometimes refer to him as Ethan-man or senorcito (roughly translates to “little man”).

My given name is Jennifer, but no one close to me ever calls me that. I generally go by Jen or Jenny, but I’ve also been called Juanita, Inga, Jinga, Jenny-any-dots (from Cats), Jennaay (read with Forrest Gump accent) along with a couple very random nicknames. I have to say I really hate the Cats and Forrest Gump references!

My daughter is Charlotte and we call her all sorts of things…the most common of which are Charla and Charlie. Chuckles is also a favorite. We ruled out a few names that we liked for our second daughter based on not liking the nns.
