We Have Mice

I am ridiculously terrified of mice.

Like since we found out we have them I won’t go into a room until my fiance goes into the room first and checks for mice.

And on top of it we have “houdini mice” we wake up and all the traps are moved but we haven’t caught any. We put out poison to but even if I find a dead one I’m gonna go into a full panic attack.

    I just needed to vent.

Ugh, I hate them too! I don’t have a fear of them, but they’re so horrible. Can they take two steps without pooping??

Keep up with the poison. I’ve never actually found a dead one from that.

We’ve had a lot of mice over the years here. They drive me crazy! I’ve found the poison and traps to work for a short time, but they reproduce so fast, they keep coming back. I think you also have to find the right trap for your mice. Ours are teeny tiny and I found the TomCat Spin Traps didn’t work at all. We never caught one with those, but within hours of putting out the Ortho Home Defense MAX Kill and Contain Mouse Trap, we’d catch one. I’ve used those traps several times with success, but honestly I hate having the traps always sitting out and something about the idea of drawing the animal into the house with the bait seems counter-productive to me.
This winter, I’ve started using peppermint extract around the house. Supposedly their sensitive noses can’t handle the scent and they move elsewhere. It’s been about 6 weeks and I haven’t seen any sign of them. The real test will come when the weather warms up.

    Good luck!

OMG I hate them too. In HS I saw one in my bedroom and I had chairs and things set up around the room so I did not have to step on the floor.
I hope they go away soon!

Inga: How did you put the peppermint scent out? Did you like mix it with water and spray it around or what.

I’m also interested in the peppermint extract idea. Sounds much better than poison. I was thinking maybe you put some on small pieces of cardboard to lay out, like that one ant poison?

To apply the peppermint extract, put about 5 drops on a cotton ball. Don’t dilute it. Place the cotton balls around the house in any trouble areas. In our basement, which is unfinished, I just sprinkle it on the floor but that’s probably overkill and it makes the house smell minty for a couple days.

Ugh, I hate them, too! My roommate and I dealt with them in our apartment some years back. :shudder: Hope you’re able to get rid of them soon!

Inga: One more question. How often do you reapply it?

That sounds like an awesome idea. I’d much rather just keep them away than have to poison them and possibly find them somewhere.

I think we got our current ones it’s been two days without the traps being moved. We’re pretty sure they’re living in our fireplace which we hadn’t yet lit the pilot light this year. So tomorrow my dad and fiance are gonna open it up. Because we don’t want to burn dead mice that would smell HORRIBLE.

Lilybell, I’ve been applying it about every 3 weeks or so. I’m not sure what the official recommendation is, I just figure if it’s been awhile I might as well reapply whenever it crosses my mind. If you see signs of mice coming back, apply more often, but if you don’t you probably can stretch it a little longer.
