    Hello ladies,

so….I am still on the hunt for a girls name…..found one I like and need honest opinions please :)

so as some of you know I already have a daughter named Esmé – which is now dubbed a twilight named (booo!) I appreciate some of you may love twilight- ive never seen it and hadnt heard of it when I had my daughter 5 years ago……but still 5 years on we still have people respond ‘oh after twilight?’ When I introduce them to her.

So possible problem…….I really like Hermione Jean for another girl…..yep harry potter! Also a film I havent seen ha! Would I be asking for trouble? Would people assume I love these films? Would they be made fun of?? Or will the link pass and be nice names that go well together? I also have a son James in the middle ( as far as I know no link to either film ha!)

    What do you think? Xx

I think James is actually in HP somewhere, haha! I’ve never seen either series, or read it, either, but I remember hearing something about Harry’s parents, or children, or something? being named Lily and James. I do think Hermione’s fab with Esme and James, though!

lol james is actually harry potters father. i think hermione jean screams harry potter. i dont think its usable at all especially with an esme. esme will remind people of twilight but i think that name is still useable.

I wouldn’t do it. I’ve never heard either series but the association is SO strong and I think as a sibset that both have strong pop fiction/movie associations it just might seem a little … juvenile/obsessive fan-ish? Are there other names you like?

Hermione’s middle name in the HP series is, in fact, Jean…

Like marhogjo said, Jean is actually the character Hermione’s middle name! And, yeah, James is Harry’s middle name, as well as his father’s name.

Honestly, I really like Hermione, but with your other kids’ names, it does sound very, very fangirl-ish. As much as it’s a great name, and it would work with the nickname Minnie, I think it would be weird with the middle name Jean AND Esme and James.

I think that it would most definitely look like you named them after the books.

Save Hermione for the middle name spot. Your future daughter will thank you. I’m with everyone else on the “it looks like you’re a fan girl” train.

Hermione is also the Queen in The Winter’s Tale by Shakespeare and the daughter of Helen of Troy (if you like your Greek mythology) – so if you love it and choose it, you can always point them to these references :P

I have loved the name Hermione since I came across the character in Shakespeare (she’s a great character – noble and patient and heroic), before HP (although I love HP too). I can’t really think of any good ‘near’ substitutues – Hermina, Hermia (another Shakespeare name) or Hermosa are the best I can do.

I say if you love it, go with it. Sure it’s a bit fan-pop now, but in 10 years time there’ll be new fads and the associations will have faded (HP is probably a children’s classic, but Twilight isn’t).

50 years ago a family with children called George, Anne and Julian would have looked a bit silly, but how many people now see those names as being characters from Enid Blyton’s Famous Five? Similarly, if you had daughters called Elizabeth, Josephine and Margaret not may people would assume you named your kids for Louisa May Allcot’s Little Women. Those books were just as famous as HP or Twilight in their day.

    I vote Hermione :)

I never had even heard of Twilight when my daughter was born. I knew the name was popular (Bella) but it annoyed me so much when people assumed I named her after the movie.

Ah finally someone who feels my pain! So annoying! Hoping twilight gets forgotten very soon for us both, Esmé and Bella :)

And thank you lovenames- so refreshing to read your response, made me smile xxx
