Hi, so im new to this website. I did post a message on the ‘introduce yourself’ thread but my name is Fleur and my husband, Andy, and I have a beautiful 4 year old son named Charlie (full name: Charles Avery).

We have been TTC for a couple of months now and I am probably going to take a pregnancy test in the next couple days or so. *fingers crossed its a positive* Anyways we would love some feedback on our names and any suggestions are completely welcome as well:

    boys:
    Lucan (LOO-kan)
    Arthur
    William
    Finn
    Leo (possibly Leopold?)

    girls:
    Ottilie (nn Tillie)
    Elodie
    Tessa
Cara (Im not sure if I want to start a ‘C’ trend though)

    Any feedback is much appreciated!

First of all, Charles Avery nn Charlie is adorable! Avery is on my short list, and Charles nn Charlie was on it just a small while ago! :) From your current list, I really like William and Leo (Leopold!!!!) for boys, and I could get into any of the names on your girls’ list. I also want to like Lucan, but it feels very Star Trek-ish to me (is that a thing?!). I like Lucian or just Luca much better. I think Charlie and Lucian would be very cool. Love the nn Tilly/Tillie for Ottilie, and I adore the nns for Elodie, as well (save Ellie. I think Ella, Lola, Liddy, and Lottie are so adorable!). Tessa’s nice. I’m not a huge fan, as I love the simple Tess, and the “A” just seems a might superfluous, but Tessa is lovely, and Charles and Tessa/Charlie and Tessa are very sweet together. I really LOVE Cara, but I understand your worry about starting a trend, though.

Are you looking for suggestions? I think Julian, Henry, Emerson, Declan, and George would fit great with Charles Avery for a boy, and something like Georgia, Daisy, Adelaide, Felicity, Olive, Serafina, Zara, Zinnia, Zoe for a girl?

    Good luck!

oh my goodness thank you very much! Haha, I understand your concerns with Lucan. Its actually a very new name on our list so Im not really sure if I would use it as I don’t want to go off it, if you know what I mean…? Im glad you like Charlie’s names as well, he really does suit it, haha!

Yes, I am always open to suggestions! I am loving Julian, Henry and George for boys. Im actually really loving the nn Jules, I think thats super cute! I think you have my girls style down to a tee, Georgia, Adelaide, Felicity, Zara and Zinnia are super amazing, thank you so much!

I like all your boy names except Lucan, which sounds too much like Toucan for my taste. I like Lucas or Luka better, or even just plain Luke. I like Leo and Finn best for boy first names, but love William with Will as a nn rather than Bill.

For your girl names, I like Tessa best. Elodie and Ottilie I am not sure how to pronounce. Does Elodie rhyme with Melody? Does Ottilie rhyme with Totally? I also like Zara and Georgia as Ash suggested.

    Good luck!

Lucan – Seems out of place with your other boys names. I agree with the suggestions of Lucian or Luca/Lucas, or maybe Lorcan or Logan? Lucan just sounds odd to me…
Arthur – I’m not a huge fan, I think of either the aardvark, or like, an old British man. Doesn’t fit a child to me…
William – Love! Especially with a nickname, I think a little Will or Liam would begreat with Charlie!
    Finn –
Leo (possibly Leopold?) – I like Leo as a nickname, not crazy about Leopold. I’ve always though Leopold sounded really stuck-up. What about Leonard or Leonardo?

Ottilie (nn Tillie) – Pretty, but maybe a little too odd for my taste.
Elodie – Pretty, and I think it would sound nice with Charles/Charlie. What about Melody, Elaina, Eliana, Eliza, or Elora?
Tessa – It’s okay as a nickname for Theresa, but alone it seems too nickname-y. Since you have the handsome Charles with a great nickname already, a nickname-y type like this feels sort of off to me…
Cara – I like Cara a lot, and I think it’s dissimilar enough to Charles that it would be okay. Though I’d be hesitant about another C name, too. You could spell it Kara?

Thank you so much for your replies everyone. I am starting to see your point about Lucan and I can understand that it is definitely different to Charlie’s name so I think that one is probably out. Finn is actually top of my list and Im pretty sure all of you seemed to like that one? Husband may take a little of persuading (he finds it too nicknamey) but I just don’t really like any long forms of the name.

His top pick would probably be Leo for a boy (but again he has this nickname thing stuck in his head) so Leopold was only a suggestion. I do really like Leonard so that you for that suggestion @TheWishingStar.

As for girls, Elodie and Ottilie have always been at the top of our lists every since we found out we were pregnant with #1. @embra, yes Elodie does rhyme with Melody. We are pronouncing Ottilie like OTT-ily as in the beginning sound of ‘otter’ and the end sound of something like ‘Lily’.

Thanks for your helps everyone! I would say that we have narrowed it down (and added a few of your suggestions) to:

    Finn
Leo (still searching on a longer name possibly)
    Julian

    Elodie
    Ottilie
    Tessa

We decided to scrap Cara, even thought we love it, because we don’t want to start the ‘C’ trend. Thanks!
