I accidentally posted this on Baby Name Games first. Oops! Reposting in the correct spot!

So … what are your thoughts on Valerie?

I know a Valerie (now a teenager) and I remember at first I thought it sounded like a very 1950s name but it really grew on me. Just curious what you all think of this name.

Meh. Valerie’s okay, but I like Valeria much more. Even Valentina and Valencia. Valer- names do seem to be so lush and romantic and rich, though! I do really love them.

It’s cute, in a retro sort of way, but for a similar era V name, I like Veronica a lot more.

I’m not a fan, sorry. I know a few Valerie’s and while they are around my age, it just seems to old fashioned for my taste.

I don’t dislike it, but it does just sound outdated to me. I’ve never met anyone under the age of 50 or so named Valerie… It’s pretty, but something about it just feels off to me. I have a hard time imagining it on anyone other than an older adult or, like, a teenager in the ’80s….
But I agree with embra, I like Veronica a lot more, if you want a kinda retro V name. It just seems more timeless to me.

I don’t know if I would personally ever use it, but I really like Valerie. I find it spunky and energetic. It doesn’t feel heavy like some of the other “outdated” names, and has never really become very unpopular since it’s heyday in the early 60s. Do you have any combo ideas?

Caroline, that’s the vibe I get from it, too. I hadn’t thought of combo ideas yet though. Do you have any suggestions?

I don’t know if this name is your style, but I’ve recently come across the name Vashti. She was the Queen of Persia in the Bible, kind of a cool tie and an uncommon but pretty V name :)
