What do you think of Sophie? I have never given it much thought but lately it has been in my head a lot. Popularity worries me a bit but I haven’t come across many Sophies lately, and I love how it is a strong yet also sweet choice, feminine without being frilly. I also like that it means ‘wisdom’.

    Thoughts?
Any combo ideas with it in the first or middle name spot?

    Thanks!

I like that meaning too. It is a great balance between sweet and sophisticated. If the popularity doesn’t bother you then go for it!! I just wouldn’t want to correct people it is Sophie not Sophia, Sofia, Sofie…

Paired with other names from your list I like:
    Sophie Hazel
    Sophie Isidora
    Sophie Helena
    Otherwise…
Sophie Kate – too nicknamey? Cute though
    Sophie Madeline
    Sophie Anneliese

I really love it. Funny; I just mentioned it in a post before I saw this. For me personally, I would hesitate because of Sophia being the #1 girls name and I already have two boys with top 10 names (and I somewhat regret one of them, which is the #1 name in our state) but like I said … I love it. :) If you love it and aren’t meeting a lot of Sophies where you live and aren’t equally as in love with anything less popular, then go for it!

I adore Sophia, and I love Sophie too, but I like it more as a nickname for Sophia. They’re both such sweet names. But I’m very turned off by the popularity of it. I hate how popular my name is, and it was only 24th the year I was born. So I’d be hesitant to use either Sophie or Sophia these days/

Sophie is a great example of a well-liked classic name. I think one thing some people forget that is “popular” is synonymous with “well-liked.” I can’t think of a good reason to pass up on it.

Sophie pairs well with a variety of names:

    Sophie Eleanora
    Sophie Emmanuelle
    Sophie Juliette
    Sophie Kerensa
    Sophie Beatrice
    Sophie Catherine

    Evangeline Sophie
    Violet Sophie
    Philomena Sophie
    Eleanor Sophie
    Abigail Sophie

Sophie is a fine name, as is Sophia and Sofia. however, I vastly prefer it in the middle name spot. This name is so incredibly popular now that it is virtually unexpected to see it in the middle…and there is no reason is shouldn’t be there.

If you really like this name, by all means…it is lovely. Be aware that there will be many, many Sophies. In fact, there will be more Sophies than Sophias because most girls that are named Sofia or Sophia will be called Sophie…so it will be heard even more than those options.

For me, it would be to frequently used for my personal tastes. That is purely my personal opinion, though. I would, potentially, use it in the middle name spot.

I do agree too that Sophie or Sophia would both be great in the middle name spot. I was thinking of that yesterday with some of our FN loves; Evangeline Sophia was one combo I thought of for us. )

I’m definitely warming up to the idea of it as a middle name as opposed to a first name. :-)
