Sibling name to go with…

I need some help figuring out what names go with Harrison. We also call him Harry. Don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet. I am looking for suggestions. All I can think of is Jack for a boy or Abbie (Abigail) for a girl. Please help!

Harrison’s probably a pretty easy name to match with. Just avoid anything too bizarre, or anything else ending in -son, especially for girls, and you’ll probably be okay. Seems like you like more classic, timeless names. Abigail is a lovely name! I’m not crazy about just Jack, I prefer Jackson, and I think that if you have Harrison nn Harry, people will assume Jack is a nickname too.

    What about:

    Amelia
    Charlotte
    Joanna
    Elizabeth
    Claire
    Victoria
    Caroline
    Olivia
    Sarah
    Elise
    Molly
    Katherine
    Hannah
    Emily

    Joseph
    Jonathan
    Patrick
    Daniel
    Graham
    Oliver
    James
    Karl
    Benjamin
    Samuel
    Noah
    Ethan

Let us know what you think and if you like any names suggested, and people will suggest some more that go along with that style.

I love Jack and Abigail and think they go great with Harrison! I agree with TheWishingStar on what to avoid; I think you have tons of options! I would lean toward something classic but not super popular. I especially like the idea of Oliver, Benjamin, Eleanor, Polly or Caroline.

oooh – love TwoSapphires’ suggestion of Eleanor. Great name that everyone knows how to say and yet is underused. Your own suggestion of Abigail is lovely too.

I find Jack pretty boring, to be honest, especially since, as it is already a nickname, there’s no way of shortening it. I always think a nickname is a great thing to be able to have, esp as an adult – letting people call you by your nickname confers intimacy and separates your friends and family from your professional life.

Like TheWishingStar, I’m guessing you prefer classic names. Here are a few suggestions:

    Alastair (nn=Al)
    Charles (nn=Charlie)
    Christopher (nn = Chris, Christoph)
    Daniel (Dan / Danny)
    Declan (nn=Deck)
    Edward / Edmund / Edwin (nn=Eddie/Ed)
    Jeremy (nn = Jem, Jemmy)
    Joshua (nn=Josh)
    Lachlan (nn=Lockie)
    Nathaniel (nn = Nate)
    +1 for Oliver (nn=Ollie)
    Patrick (nn=Pat)
    William (nn=Will, Bill, Billy)

I love Lily! My one concern, though, would be that Harry and Lily together are very Harry Potter. There’s another topic that came back the other day about a similar case. Lily on it’s own doesn’t make me think of it at all, it’s only because I know your son goes by Harry that it comes up. I don’t know if that would bother you? The series is still popular enough these days that people may leap to that association with the names together, but I suspect that will eventually fade away.
