I’d love to hear thoughts on the name Ruby. My husband LOVES the name. I’m trying to LOVE it. My biggest concern is her being teased with words that rhyme with Ruby…like boobie, dubie(drug related).

Other names I like a lot are Stella, Lillie, and Rose.

    Thoughts PLEASE!!!

p.s baby girl is already here!

I like it okay. I think Roo and Bea are adorable nns, and Ruby is just lovely and spunky and sweet on its own. Maybe it helps that it has family ties for me, but I like Ruby a lot. I don’t LOVE it, but I do like it a lot.

From the rest of your list, I LOVE Lily (this spelling, though), and like Rose quite a bit (only for the nn Rosie; I’m not terribly fond of just Rose, but I love Rosie! I prefer Rosalie and Rosamund for the full name).

    Good luck!

I love it. We have a niece named Ruby. There was also a Ruby in the boys’ preschool class this year. Everyone loves her. I don’t think she got teased but those names might come later?

Have you checked out the “Considering this name?” section on this site? I find it really helpful. It looks like you’re on to something with “ruby boobie” (which I honestly never thought of) but overall most people named Ruby are happy with their name:

Ruby is adorable!! I could definitely love it :) it’s my favorite from your list. Any name has teasing potential and I think she’d have a pretty good comeback with a name that happens to be a beautiful, VERY valuable & precious gem! Both my husband and I have July birthdays and if we were to have another Ruby birthstone baby I’d consider using it. Let us know!

I think it’s cute. It never occurred to me that it rhymed with boobie, and I knew a girl named Ruby growing up who was never teased for her name, even though it was an unusual name back then (which it isn’t particularly now). When I think of the name, I think more of the song “Ruby Tuesday”. I think if a kid ends up being easy to tease, the others will find a way to tease her regardless of what her name rhymes with. If she’s not, then she’ll be fine no matter what her name is.
