Revisiting the Girl Name List. Help needed!

Hard to believe, but if all goes well we might have an actual baby to name come October! It’s very early and I haven’t even had an ultrasound yet, but the RE said my blood test numbers were great. Instead of worrying, I’m trying to pass the time revisiting our name lists and assuming everything is going to be great.

Since we were TTC for over 2 years, I’m really burned out looking at names and bored with many of the ones we’ve talked about for years. We already know another boy would very likely be Leo, but we never agreed 100% on a girl’s name. We’d like something solid and classic, that will sound reasonable with big brother Ethan. Popularity isn’t a big issue for us, as long as, we don’t already have someone with the same name in our family or group of friends.

Some names we are looking at are: Juliana, Eleanor (nn Ellie), Claire, Sophia, Elaina (we have a spelling issue with this one) and Charlotte. Any that stand out as favorites? Any other suggestions?

Oh wow, Inga, I am so happy to hear this! Congratulations!! Sending T&P’s for a very happy and healthy pregnancy. That is awesome. :)

I love your name options! (No surprise, I know.) My favorites on your list are Eleanor and Claire. I do love Elena but not as big on Elaina. I really like all of them though. I like Juliana, though I like Julia better, personally.

Some other ideas (though I’m guessing you’ve considered all these before but I’ll throw them out there just in case :)):
    Cora
    Lucy
    Grace
    Lila
    Violet
    Madeleine
    Caroline
    Tessa
    Laurel
    Emmeline
    Elise

Omgoodness, really?! Congratulations! With the move to the new pc, I haven’t really been following the TTC ladies so much as I had earlier, but I know you’ve been trying for a very, very long time, so congratulations, and here’s to praying that everything goes well with baby!

I think Ethan and Leo are adorable. I’m not sure I’ve ever said it, but I love them together. :) I think Ethan and Claire are great, and I really, really love a lot of your other options–I can’t really see you NOT using those names. But hmm, what about:

Elise (had to echo this–I think Ethan and Elise would be great!)
Amelia (I prefer Emilia but Amelia does get a lot of love!)
    Grace
    Olive/Olivia
    Penelope/Poppy
    Georgia
    Felicity
Fiorella (I know you had liked some more exotic middles–I think something like Claire Fiorella would be really cool!)
    Annabel
    Ivy
    Zara
    Violet

I really love Charlotte, Eleanor, Claire, and Sophia! I love Juliana, too, and Ethan and Juliana are perfect, but I’m a bit jarred at not seeing Julia, haha. I think that would get my vote as well, it is lovely! Elaina’s okay, but I much prefer the Elena spelling.

Thank you! Thank you! We’re so hoping everything goes smoothly and we’ll finally have our baby we’ve been waiting for.

We know Lucy and Violet (sisters), Olivia and Emmeline, so we can’t use them, even though they are nice. Georgia is another name I really like, but it was the name of my mom’s sister who died of childhood cancer. No one in the family has used the name in the past 70 years since she passed so I’m not sure if it would be a bit taboo.

My husband likes Amelia and I like Emilia! He thinks Emilia would constantly get people thinking her name was Amelia. So far he’s not budging!

Elena is just turning into a pronunciation nightmare, hence the Elaina spelling. I really love the sound of “ee-lay-nah”, but am having trouble with non-traditional spelling vs mis-pronunciation.

Julia is a name my husband loves, but I’ve never been 100% sold on. I like it a lot, just not to the point where I’m feeling it’s the one.

I realized after I posted the first time, that we can’t do nn Ellie due to a family member I’d forgotten. Ella might be a possible nn replacement.

A couple other names we both like that I forgot to put on the list are:

Lily as a nn for Lillian or Liliana
    Emma

    Thanks for the responses!

As of this very moment, our top pick is Sophia Juliet. We’ll see how many times that changes in the coming months!

    Congratulations!! Sophia Juliet is beautiful!
All of your choices are great, I also like Emilia (or Amelia) a lot. I would think to pronounce Elena the way you’re thinking, I don’t think the spelling Elaina is necessary, it just reminds me of the dated “Elaine”

Congratulations!!! I love Sophia Juliet, I think it is honestly stunning! Ethan and Sophia would be absolutely perfect. From youre list I do also love Juliana and Amelia. Lily has always been a long standing favourite for me and I love all of the variants, Lillian, Lilianna, Lilia etc.

Congrats! I like most of those with Ethan with the exception of Eleanor. I think I like Claire the best with Ethan thought.

What about Claire Sophia as a combo?

And as far as a nickname for Eleanor….what about Nora??

Claire Sophia is actually a combo I wrote down last night. You must be reading my mind :) One of my first cousins is named Nora, so I can’t really picture it on anyone else in the family. Nora is a very pretty nickname for Eleanor, though!

Sophia Juliet and Claire Sophia are both really beautiful. :) Claire Sophia would be my top vote.
You may remember me mentioning I have two nieces named Eleanor (one on each side). One goes by Ellie and the other by Ella (or just the full Eleanor).

If you want the Ee-laina pronunciation then yeah, I would go with the Elaina spelling. I think of Elena as starting with the soft e/”ell” sound.

Yeah, I think we’ve given up on Elaina/Elena. I love both Sophia and Claire. Honestly, I really really really love Sophia, but I have to figure out if I can deal with the popularity and the fact that we do know one person with a little Sophia. Claire seems much less popular even though it’s a name pretty much everyone in the US knows. There seems to be a lot of little Eleanors around here, too. I’m not sure I love it enough to deal with that (I’d rather go for Sophia if we’re going the super-popular route). Hmmm.

I do adore Sophia too. :) I think Claire Sophia could be pretty depending on your last name.

Yes, it sounds find with our last name. At least that’s not a problem.

Ethan keeps telling me he’s going to have a sister named Sophia. Not sure why he’s so determined on that, but the kid has good taste.

Aw that’s too funny! I do like that Claire is a little less popular, but I like the flow of Sophia Claire a bit better than Claire Sophia.
