Anyone have favorite read-aloud chapter books that are appropriate for preschoolers? Complex sentences etc. are fine (my daughter is enjoying Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing), but she is still impressionable, so I would prefer books that don’t prominently feature children misbehaving or being unkind to each other. I have been editing that book a bit as we read it. I would also like to avoid orphan stories for the time being, since she has been fairly worried about her mortality and ours lately. So far, she has really liked, “Three Tales of my Father’s Dragon” and “The Mouse and the Motorcycle”. Bonus points for books in which the characters use decent grammar, but that might be too much to ask.

Stuart Little? Charlotte’s Web? The Ramona books? The “Grandma’s Attic” series? I haven’t read those since I was a kid so I’m not sure if they meet your criteria but I remember loving them.
DH recently read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to the boys and they loved it. I had thought they might be a little young for it or find it a little too scary, but nope.

I would try the magic bunny/ puppy/ kitty/ pony books. They are g rated and no one dies and there are no refetences to dead people. Each animal has 4 to 7 books I think.

You could also try the rainbow magic fairy books. They are separated into 7 book series ie the ocean fairies the sports fairies the jewel fairies and there are over a hundred books. We have thirty. Your local library is bound to have a bunch.

None of the books I mentioned are great works of fiction but Gigi enjoys them though and they keep it very nick Jr.

    * you might also try the Geronimo silton books. They are a mix b/w comics and chapter books and they also keep it clean.

What, you don’t enjoy the atrocious grammar of Junie B Jones? Ugh! I loathe those books so much. Morgan’s kindergarten teacher got her hooked a couple years ago and I wanted to go in and give her a good shake!

Morgan is really hooked on the Rescue Princesses. They’re pretty cute, and the princesses are sort of detectives in them and have ninja skills. lol I’ve only read one with her and it was pretty harmless.
