Quinton/Quinten/Quentin?

I’ve been reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman, which is…interesting, to say the least.
The main character’s name is Quentin, which I do not like at all and which has been driving me mad the whole book. But it’s gotten me thinking about the name Quinton, which I actually like a lot, and all the other spelling variations – Quinten, Quintin, I know a kid who spells it Quinnten, etc. I think Quinton’s the only spelling I’d personally use. But Quentin is the most common on the SSA list.

    What do you think?
Do you like the name(s)? Which spelling/name do you like best of them?

And do you pronounce all the names the same? Or, how do you pronounce them?
(The only Quentin I’ve ever met pronounced it exactly the same as Quinton, KWIN-tun, but I’ve also heard it said more like KWEHN-tin)

I vastly prefer just the name Quinn (for either a girl or boy) but as for Quentin, I prefer the Quentin spelling.

i dont like these names. its a strange sound. i have a cousin quentin. pronounced like its spelled. KWEN-TIN. and i have a neighbor named quintin. KWIN-tin. i dont like either. i think quinn is a really cool name for a boy. i know its trendy on girls right now but i could not picture it on a girl despite glee. it sounds manly to me.

They’re OK. I think I do like Quinn better, too.
Of the 3, I prefer Quentin. I pronounce them differently, according to their spellings though (short “i” sounds for the first two, short “e” sound for the last).

Not my favorite name and I agree with the other ladies regarding the spelling

I like Quentin, but only that spelling. The other spellings are variations of that name.

The E in Quentin makes me so annoyed, though. They all come from the Latin prefix Quint-, and the name Quintus, which are always spelled with the I, not the E.
I know Quentin’s more common, but I can’t help but feel like it’s the weird French spelling or something that just happened to catch on.
    Plus I like that the I spellings make Quin/n a logical nickname…

Hm. Thanks for your thoughts, guys!

I would spell it Quinten. I pronounce Quentin differently than Quinten…I say it like you’d say the beginning of quest not like Quinn. And I just don’t care for the -on suffix in this case.
