Pregnancy Announcements

Did you do anything special to announce your pregnancy to your husband, or to your friends and family?

For me, this pregnancy was unexpected. I thought I had just stopped ovulating/cycling for awhile due to PCOS, and I only tested because my big sister (TwoSapphires) thought it was a good idea. I was so surprised, I didn’t have time to think of any big, dramatic fun way to let my husband know. I am a teacher and I ended up telling him, “Well, I just finished grading my first test of the semester, and it was positive.” Full disclosure – this was very similar to the way that TwoSapphires announced her pregnancy to me 5 years ago, so it was not totally original with me :-)

So how did you do it?

Haha yes. :) Since my BFP was during grad school finals week, I announced to several people by saying, “I took a big test today/on Wednesday … and it was positive!” I wish I had thought of something more creative for others though; I think for a lot of people I just flat out said, “We’re expecting! I’m due in January!”

The cutest ones I’ve seen on FB are where you see shoes of each person in the family and there’s a little baby pair with “Coming May 2014″ or whatever. I’ve seen it several times so I know it’s not original anymore, but the cuteness gets me every time. ;)

When we found out we were pregnant with our first, I got party invitations and filled in certain things for each section….You are invited to a: birthday party on: (expected due date) at time: who knows! Host: (dr’s name). Etc. It was pretty fun! For the others we just kinda said, hey! we’re pregnant! If we ever have another I want to go all out!!!

My H was there when I took the test so there was no way to be creative with him – we had been trying for awhile and I did not even think of trying to do anything creative for him ;)
Tell the family we did a take off of the old Mastercard “Priceless” ads (they were popular at the time). The end was “realizing there are three people in this picture (of H and myself) .. priceless”
That was before I realized we were having twins

Aww, that’s really cool, Sara! I haven’t heard that one before! :)
But yeah, I remember those two months between BFP and first u/s where we thought there were 3 of us … :)

with our first daughter i took a picture of my husband and i. posted it on FB with the caption: baby:”say hello to my mama and dada. you’ll meet me in sept.” with this pregnancy. my husband took a picture of my daughter talking into a paper cup phone with the string attached to the other end of the phone to my belly, with the caption: evie:”hi baby. mama and dada says i’m your big sister. see you in july.”

Well i too believe that pregnancy announcements needs to be done on a polite manner, but in our case we actually floated a cd to our near & dear ones, announcing the good news through a surprising manner. But now we do cherish the memory of having our first kid.

I haven’t told everyone I know yet, but I have told my mother, step-father, and biological father. On the way to get the official bloodwork done, I had to kind of tell my step-father what it was for (I didn’t have a vehicle with me at the time it was in the shop) but I told him that me and the hubby were still trying after a false pregnancy back in Feb/March. But when I actually got the news, I called my mother and when she got the phone I just pretty much said “Good mornin’ Vavo (Grandma in Portuguese)” and she started freaking out. Not sure how to tell the friends though but I haven’t seen that shoe idea on FB at all, maybe that’s what I’ll do when I officially announce it!

cpacheco – love the simplicity of “good morning Vavo” :)

We aren’t trying yet but if we would ever have another, I’ve been trying to think of something completely original and semi-over the top way to announce we were pregnant. I don’t want to hijack this thread but since it’s kinda what this topic is about anyway, anyone have any ideas?

I’d love to make some sort of short movie or something. :)

Ohhh, cpacheco, I think that’s really sweet! :)

yellowwatts, I’m no good at coming up with ideas like that but I hope you think of something really fun. I love the idea of announcing it in a movie.
