Please Help Us Name Our Daughter!

    Hello,

My husband and I are expecting a little girl in 3 weeks. Our last name is Diamond. If we were having a boy, his name would be Christopher Michael, after my husband.

We both come from very large families, so a lot of the names we like are taken by the little girls around us, such as:
    Sophia
    Isabella
    Gianna
    Victoria
    Julia
    Peyton
    Riley
    Maeve

I also love the gem names Ruby, Hazel, Violet and Gemma, but this is obviously problematic with our last name.

We like really feminine names but it’s hard to find one that possesses the gravity needed to weigh down Diamond. We also seem to like C names, like Charlotte, Catherine, Caroline and Clara but I do not want to use a C name since if we ever have a son, he will be named Christopher and I come from a sibset of Ds.

I really feel as though Sophia would be perfect, but due to its popularity and the little girl we know named Sophia, I would never use it. My husband suggested Sylvia as an alternative, and while I like it in theory, seeing it written reminds me of saliva. I like (don’t love) Sabrina, but he can’t get over “the teenaged which”.

Our siblings each have daughters and their names are Delilah Antoinette, Matilda Grace, Valerie Monique and Anna Amelia – and since they will undoubtedly be spending a lot of time together I would also like it if my daughter’s name flowed with theirs without being too similar.

We like Lola, but aren’t sure if it could be taken seriously as a full name and also worry about all the songs that feature the name Lola (the kinks, copacobana & damn Yankees). We considered Roxanne but ruled it out strictly because of the Police song.

We both agree on some names, but aren’t really in love with any, like:
    Taylor
    Devon (not girly enough)
    Tessa
    Cara (pronunciation issues – CAR-uh v. CARR-uh)
    Shiloh (too Brad & Angelina)
Brynn (doesn’t sound like a full name)
Nina (had a cat by this name)

We also like some names but aren’t sure if they are too similar to little girls we know:

Angelina (we know an Angelica but my mother’s name is Angela)
Isobel (too similar to popular Isabella?)
Lila (obviously too close to Delilah)

Please help us choose a perfect name amongst this madness!

    Thanks in Advance,
    Dee

If you like Sabrina, but not the witch reference, how about Sabina or Sabine? Other possibilities: Marina, Veronica, Anissa, Aurelia, Auralie, Fiona, Rosalie, Natalie, Natalia, Vianne, Jillian, or Audrey.

I love Tessa! I think Tessa Diamond would work well.

You could always use the gem names as middle names, like Alexandra Hazel (nns would include Alex, Andi, Lexi, Ally). I like Veronica (I know someone whose daughter goes by Vera). I love Nina (Nina Rose?), but if you don’t want to name her after your cat, maybe Nora?

Or if you like Maeve, maybe Maura or Moira?

Have you decided on anything yet?
