My partner wants a kid called Wolfgang?

Okay, so what are peoples opinions on the name Wolfgang? My partner is pretty much in love with this name I do like it, but I would feel sorry for any child now with that name. Though the nn Wolfie when he’s little and Wolf as he gets older have been suggested?

I’m with you on this one. With all due respect to Mozart, I think Wolfgang would be a rough name for a kid to grow up with today. I also don’t like the nn’s Wolfie or Wolf at all. I know this slang term is a little dated now, but the term “wolf” refers to a type of guy who is not the most upstanding. http://www.thefreedictionary.com/Wolf

Are there any other names he likes? Would he consider it as a middle name instead of first?

I agree. I know one Wolfgang who goes by Wolfie, even as an adult, and it seems unfortunate to me. If your partner is big into terrifying animal names, what about Leo or Baer?

Thanks, I’m trying my best to persuade him to have it as a middle name to Edison, so Edison Wolfgang? Though I do like Baer.

I think Edison is a great option.

i dont think that is a usable name.. at all.. i actually know a guy named wolf.. idk how he thinks of it. hes sort of as weird as his name which doesnt help.. nice kid though. i did hear a woman say about it, “his name is wolf. his mother must have had a difficult birth.” so i dont know what other kinds of comments the name will attract. and i dont understand the gang part..

Ugh this reminds me of my hubby and his affection for the name “Archer.” The two of them should get together and have the Wolfgang/Archer sibset…

oh dear :L my daughter’s called Archer-Rose, she opted for Rosie as a nickname as soon as she hit school though.
I have managed to at least have Wolfgang as a middle name, hopefully I can change his mind completely before my little boy is born.

Haha really?? What are the chances?! I never considered Archer for a girl-it’s cute!! I must admit, I do like it better on a girl, but I can’t tell him & give in :)
As cool as the Archer/Wolfgang subset is, I don’t think I’d have the guts to use it in the first name spot. Def. keep it as a mn option!
