Menu Planning

I know this has been talked about before but I now need to actually starting planning a menu on a budget and sticking to it. Now that I am in school full time along with the kids I would like to plan on more crock pot meals and have things planned out so I can come home and just start making dinner.
Any family friendly (bonus if they are Weight Watchers friendly) crock pot or quick cook meals?
Do you use a calendar to keep track?

I need to start doing this again, too. One book I read a few years ago had a lot of interesting ideas for planning and saving money. It was called Cut Your Grocery Bills in Half with America’s Cheapest Family by Steve and Annette Economides. I’m not really in to a lot of the things they do, but one of her big things is meal planning, so I think they have a whole section of the book just about that. She goes through brainstorming, calendars, etc.

I was talking to my H about it and I don’t think it will save up too much money (we never eat out as it is) unless we plan around the sales and that just seems like a whole other experience that I don’t have the patience for.

http://www.moneysavingmom.com has tons of great ideas.

    Some easy meals:
    chicken tortilla soup
    crockpot chicken tacos (or chili)
baked tilapia with veggies (really quick, minimal prep; just throw frozen tilapia filets in a baking dish, surround with frozen veggies. Lemon, salt, pepper over it all, dab with butter or olive oil, bake at 400 for 15-20 mins).

Each weekend I write down what I want to have for meals for the next 6-7 days. They I look what I have in my pantry and add sides accordingly. I then write down what all I will need for each meal and usually stick to my list pretty well. It’s so nice to have all those meals to choose from each week instead of it being 4 o clock and saying “I have no idea what to make for dinner…”
