What are your honest opinion on these two names? We are also considering Georgiana with the nn Georgie or Annie

Very nice! I think William Arthur is especially handsome. I like Georgiana better than Lydia on its own, but think Lydia goes better with Jayne.

They’re so Austen-ian! :) I realy love Lydia Jayne, and I think Charlie and Lydia are so cute together. William is nice, but I’m not terribly excited about it. I like it more as a middle, but Charlie and William are super handsome together! :)

I really like both Lydia and William!! Not crazy about Jayne or Arthur on their own, but I think they work in the combos. Classy and cute.
And I like Lydia a LOT more than Georgiana.

I really like Lydia Jayne! I love William (obviously) though honestly I have name regret sometimes just because we have enountered SO many other Wills in preschool, T-ball, gymnastics, etc. (It’s #1 in our state though so even more popular here than nationally.) I find Arthur to be a bit dowdy-sounding but as an MN it’s not bad.
I like Georgia but not as fond of Georgiana. I like Lydia better than Georgiana.

I think they all work together really well. They have a very English vibe.

Lydia Jayne works well together. I love Lydia, it has lots of great associations but its lack of a proper meaning is a drawback. Jayne is a name that fits in the middle with most names, but unless it has a good family association then I’d look for something a little more exciting and unexpected (June perhaps?)

William Arthur is a handsome name. William is very, very popular – it hasn’t fallen out of the top 20 in the USA since records began, and is similarly popular in other English speaking countries. On the other hand, it does have a good range of nicknames and it is very familiar. I love Arthur and its Victorian revival vibe – it would be great to see it up front rather than tucked in the middle.

Georgiana is a bit of a mouthful for me, and might get misread as the more familiar Georgina. It also has several pronunciations – jor-jee-AH-nah, jor-jee-AN-nah and jor-JAY-nah, which might cause confusion.

I figured I’d re-comment, since Georgiana’s not getting too much love, and I didn’t comment on her originally. I really, really love Georgiana (my favorite of the Georg- names!), much more than Georgina (which I’m not terribly fond of at all, actually). I hear Georgiana bantered about much more often than Georgina, so I’m not sure why Georgiana would be mistaken for Georgina. I like the tie to Georgiana Darcy, too. She was just a doll! :) Plus, Gigi, Georgie, and Annie are just adorable. :) I like Lydia more, but I love Georgiana as a MN. I think Lydia Georgiana Jane would be adorable, but maybe a bit heavy on the P&P connections, haha.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

Ash: I’m am very much in love with Pride and Prejudice ever since studying it at school. Do you think that Lydia Jayne is too P+P?? I’m glad you like Georgiana, its just a little bit more unusual and unexpected than any of the other names on my list. I have to agree that the nn’s for it are quite stunning!

TwoSapphires: I have the same problem over here in the UK. William is just so popular and I would hate to see him just get lost in a sea of Wills/Liam’s. But I also don’t think I’m brave enough to use Arthur.

Clementine: Jayne is a family, hence the reason the Y is in their. It’s my mothers name. I know William is very popular, i’m not sure if I would be brave enough (as stated above) to use Arthur. Would Charles (my eldest) and Arthur work? Hmm

If you are looking for alternatives to William, I think Nathaniel, Joseph, Benjamin, or Nicholas would work well with Arthur as a mn and with Charles as a brother.

How English and awesome are those names?? Lydia is so nice and not common while William may be common, I’ve never thought it had lost its panache. Georgiana is a name I’ve heard quite a lot and I was at school with quite a few Georgie’s. Honestly, you cannot go wrong with sublime elegance and all of these names have that!

    Cheers!

Meh, not really. :) (Besides, could there ever be too much Pride and Prejudice?! :) Also, Catherine Lydia Eve is on my list, nn Kit. I feel like that would be even worse than Lydia Jayne, since Jane was at least a good character! :) Kitty and Liddy are so spoiled, hahaha. I think Charlie and Lydia/Liddy are adorable together. :)

Ash: im so glad! Yes, I do love Jane in P+P. I also quite like Lydia, even though I agree she was spoiled, haha! I love the nn Liddy as well, very cute!

My car’s name is Liddy. :) Well, technically, Elodie Claire, nn Liddy. She’s a total diva. Just like Lydia Bennet. Maybe I should have gone with Jane. She might have been more staid and reliable, haha!

Haha, ash you do make me smile! I actually went to school with a Lydia Bennett and she was the complete opposite of the character in P+P.
