Let's Talk about Caspar!

I’ve really been loving Caspar lately, and I am seriously considering adding it to my list. I’m just curious what you all think about it? This forum’s members come from a more different demographic than the other name site I use, so I’m just curious how it’d be received in both arenas. It has a lot of significance to me–both in honor of a very dear friend of mine who passed away, and also my baby sister (also, I love that it honors Christmas!). I think a lot of Americans are worried about Casper the Friendly Ghost, but do little kids even know who that is anymore? I’m not terribly worried about the association.

What would you use as a combo? I’m thinking of John/Jack, Robert, or Gray for the second middle (family names), but I’m still stuck on the first middle. Any ideas? :)

    Thanks, ladies!

Definitely Casper the Friendly Ghost. Though to be honest, I never really watched any of that. It was just a part of the culture I grew up in. And I think because of that, it bow kind of seems like a pet name to me. I’ve met MANY white dogs and cats called Casper because they’re white like a ghost….
Spelling it with an A makes me want to pronounce it Cas-PAHR, which sounds kind of French, but pretentious… I definitely prefer the E spelling, just for simplicity…

My mind definitely goes to the ghost but I can also see the appeal.

I know many men my age with the name Casper/Kasper and there has never been references to the friendly ghost people might have thought it though. I don’t know. I would pronounce Caspar like TheWishingStar.

    I wouldn’t say I don’t like it but I prefer Casper.

@CecillieMarie – You’re in Europe, though, yeah? I think the situation is quite different here. Every time I hear Caspar brought up, it’s always followed by “the ghost?!” But it’s not known widely by children at all, so I don’t think it’d be a problem for his age group, just mine (and generations before mine!). I just think Caspar’s really cool. It has a lot of history and vintage feelings, but still fits in with a lot of the modern sort of names that are in right now–stuff like Jasper, River, Caspian, Cassius, Spencer, Hunter, etc.

I can see the appeal BUT my boys totally know who Casper the Friendly Ghost is. They came across it on Netflix or something and watched it for a while. It looked like an updated version so I think it got remade since I was a kid.

Och, no! I’m still not terribly worried–Casper the Friendly Ghost seems pretty mild, as far as teasing goes, anyhow!–but it is good to know.

Anyone want to offer up any combo ideas? So far I’ve tossed around Caspar Elliot, Caspar Leo, Caspar William, and Caspar Daniel, but I’m not sure I’m wowed by any of them. I already have the second middle picked out (it’s a family name).
