It's a ….
GIRL! It’s hard to believe we have a daughter on the way! Right now, we are about 90% on Claire Juliet, but I think we’ll be talking about it a little more before we make it official. Just wanted to share the news and this seemed like the best spot.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so excited for you! Claire Juliet is a classic and beautiful name.

YAY for little girls
Love the name!
Yay, congratulations!! I am so happy for you! And love your name choice.
Thanks My husband is still hoping I’ll agree to either Claire Julia or Claire Eleanor, but I just don’t like them as much. We’ll see!
So I’ve been totally second guessing our name choice today. It just doesn’t seem right. Naming a girl seems so much harder!
Eleanor is pretty but Claire Eleanor doesn’t seem to flow as well. I think Claire Juliet flows better than Claire Julia but either works.
Are you second-guessing the FN or just the MN?
The first name is still driving me crazy. We have our list of three names we go back to: Claire, Julia, Sophia. All have something I like and don’t like about them so it never feels quite right, but there’s nothing we like better.
Claire is simple and pretty, but maybe too simple. I love how it looks in writing, but when I say it the name seems to lack a little something. I’m also not 100% thrilled with how the R sound works with our R last name.
Julia is by far my husband’s favorite, but for some reason I can’t find any middle names that I like with it. Alex loves Julia Eleanor, which flows nicely, but just seems to have too “old” a vibe to it with the combo.
Sophia with the nickname Sophie is a name I adore, but it’s just sooo darn popular!
I just don’t know what to do at this point!

Claire Juliet is my favorite of all your choices but do you think you may have another (girl) in the future you’d save Julia for? If so then I’d try a different mn for Claire & if not then maybe compromise and use your husband’s favorite Claire Julia.. It doesn’t flow as well as Juliet but it sounds like it would be more meaningful? I find girl names much harder too and even my top ones aren’t quite perfect :/
It’s very very unlikely we’ll have anymore children. We only wanted two and it took over 2 years, including medical help, to conceive this little girl so I doubt we’d have an “accidental” 3rd baby. I’ll be nearly 38 when she’s born so not many years left to change my mind either

Gotcha. Well congratulations! Enjoy every second with your perfect pair I vote for Claire Julia then, unless another name comes to you in the next few months

I think Claire Juliet is lovely…and I like Claire better than Julia or Sophia.
Just curious…Why is Julia Claire not an option? It gives your husband his favorite and I think Claire sounds very nice in the middle with it.
Julia Claire just seems like a too common combo for my taste. Both are well-used names and Claire is a very common middle name, so I’d guess there are a lot of Julia Claires already out there. One new possibility is Julia Charlotte, but I’m still thinking.
Thanks all for the input
I like Claire Juliet the best of the names you have listed. The accent on the third syllable of Juliet makes it flow better with a one syllable first name than Julia or Eleanor imo. Claire Julianne would be pretty too. If you are uncertain about Claire, have you considered Clara, which would solve your “R at the end issue”? I picture a pretty girl dancing (probably because of the Nutcracker), but I think it would age well too.
I do like Clara, and that’s what everyone suggests to me! I’ve been trying to convince my husband about Clara for years, but he’s not budging. Husbands can be so difficult!
Hmmm. Other possibilities close to Claire – Clarissa or Chiara
Similar meaning and vibe – Lucy
Similar vibe – Caroline, Celia, Viola
Less common, but still classic – Sabina
This is fun. I’ll stop now.
Julia Charlotte is really pretty.
Thanks for the suggestions, Embra, but at this point I really don’t think we’re going to find an alternate name we like anywhere as much as the top three.
TwoSapphires, I do have Julia Vivienne and Julia Violet on my long list. Julia Sophie is another I’m considering.
We’re just at a frustrating sticking point right now. Alex has told me he wants Julia (no variations) or Eleanor in the name somewhere and is unhappy with any combo I suggest that does not include one of them. When I gave him some names to look over, his responses were: Claire Julia or Claire Eleanor, Julia “anything” or Sophia Eleanor. Unfortunately, I’m totally in love with the combo Sophia Juliet and he is not. Despite having free reign for a Julia middle name, I just can’t find anything I really love. My favorite middle name is Juliet, but Julia Juliet just isn’t going to work Essentially, my options are to accept both a first and middle name I’m not sure I’m happy with or to go with Sophia Eleanor. I’m so thankful my kids have such an involved father, but compromising on a name is hard!
So before he went to bed tonight, my husband tells me he thinks we should stick to Claire Juliet since that was our first instinct and we were excited about it at the time. He thinks it’s “classy”. Sooo … he’s done a complete circle. Haha. No idea where we’ll be come October, but I do have to say it’s adorable that Ethan says Claire as “Care”.
