I made up this name…how is it???

So I made up this name. I really want this for my girl if I have one.

    Alexiana

its pronounced like Alexia and Juliana. I love the nn Lexi, and I love names that end in Ana.

I figured it was unique enough that she would be the only one…but sounds like it could be a common name. What do you think???

I’m not really a fan of made-up names. It’s unique in a sense but super-trendy in that currently, names ending in -ana or -anna are pretty popular and many parents are tacking those endings onto other names in an attempt to be unique. One name we love is Eliana but one of my hesitations in using it is that people unfamiliar with its origins (Hebrew) may tend to assume it’s part of that smushed-together made-up name trend.

It’s totally personal preference though. Some people will love it and find it a refreshing twist on two more common names. Some people might find it a little long or “frilly” (5 syllables is pretty long for a first name!) but others love long, flowing names on girls.

I don’t usually like made up names, but I think it is pretty. It sounds like it could conceivably be a name.

it doesnt sound bad but it turns me off that it is a made up name. i know the whole “made up name” thing could be argued that every name is made up but i feel that there is something tacky about a non legit name. i am kind of surprised that alexiana isnt already legit because it does sound so. but anyway i much prefer alexandra or alexa or alexia. and i like many other names ending in ana such as liliana and tatiana

All names were at one point made up by someone, so I don’t see a point in arguing against “made up” names. I like this one, because it looks like a normal, trendy name, not a random keyboard smash of letters. And, honestly, I’m pretty sure you’re not the first to use it. I just Googled it real fast, it gets plenty of hits. No one famous with the name, but it has been used. Certainly not common, though.

That said, I agree with TwoSapphires that -ana and -anna names are super trendy right now, and lots of names are getting those endings stuck on to them to make them unique. She may be the only Alexiana in her class, but she’ll be among Juliana, Ariana, Eliana, Liliana, Marianna, etc. It’s not as unique when everyone rhymes. Alexiana’s really pretty, but I wouldn’t see it as unique.

Personally, if I really liked the nickname Lexi, I would go with Alexis or Alexia. All other Alex- names default to Alex as a nickname, for me, but Lexi could work for any of them. I personally like Alexa or Alexandria.

The “made-up names” thing is a matter of preference; a lot of people prefer names that have more of a history and meaning. Of course it’s all subjective but a fair number of people have a bias against names they think sound “made-up” so I think that’s good to be aware of as one of many factors to consider when choosing your child’s name.

Alexia is a brand of food (i.e. Alexia sweet potato fries) so if I were deciding between Alexa and Alexia, I’d lean toward Alexa because Alexia really just makes me think of sweet potato fries.

It isn’t too bad but I agree with the whole “not a fan of made up names” thing. I’d prefer Alexa or Alexandria instead.
