Eliza/Liza?

What do you think of the name Eliza (possibly Liza for short)? It wouldn’t be short for Elizabeth b/c that’s already used in the family. But I’ve been liking it lately and DH isn’t totally opposed to it. ;) Thoughts?

Oh and if you do like it … what would you think of Eliza Evangeline?

I have a good friend whose full name is Eliza. I call her Eli, pronounced like Ellie, and her husband calls her Liza. So, I think it works pretty well as a full name. Though personally, I prefer Elizabeth, just because it’s longer and a bit classier. And I know people ALWAYS assume my friend’s name is short for Elizabeth. Eliza on it’s own is spunkier and a bit unusual, but I don’t really see it as different from Elizabeth, and if you’re not using Elizabeth because it’s already a family name, Eliza doesn’t really seem any better to me…

As for Eliza Evangeline, I’m not a fan. I don’t usually like alliterating names much, they sound like superheroes. And Eliza and Evangeline both have sort of harsher consonant sounds, like z, v, and g, not to mention the Ls, and that just makes the two of them sound very similar. I also can never hear Evangeline without hearing “evil angel,” and also “evangelist,” so I’m not a fan of the name in general… I know you like it though, but I personally would opt for a first name that didn’t sound so similar to it.

Our family member named Elizabeth goes by Beth, so I definitely see using Eliza as different from using the full Elizabeth in terms of it seeming like the baby was named after her or any confusion re who you’re talking about.

LOL at alliterative names sounding like superheroes. I agree in many cases. :)

I do pronounce the “E” in Eliza differently from the “E” in Evangeline (long e versus short e) but probably not everyone does so that’s a good thing to keep in mind.

Eliza is a stunner. I love it just as it is and Evangeline works as long as the sounds together don’t conflict with your last name :)

I think Eliza is beautiful and fun- getting to include Zs always adds some zest I think. I don’t like Evangeline as a middle for it though, feels to me like it bogs it down. What about Eliza Christine? (glancing at a different list you posted)
