Amazingly, we have come across another girl name that DH and I both like.
Thoughts on Elise?
And if you were choosing between the two, how would you rate Elise vs Julia?
kelchickyParticipant3 weeks, 5 days ago
I love that name. It is on my list! It is elegant for when she gets older and has the cute nickname of Ellie!

I’m really starting to like Elise (only just topped by Elsie). I agree with Kelchicky that it’s very elegant and beautiful. I definitely prefer Elise to Julia.

Thanks for the feedback! we probably wouldn’t use a nn since we have a niece that goes by Ellie, but it’s pretty short on its own.

Pretty & classic but not boring. Clean and simple but elegant. It’s more unusual than Julia, which I like. I really like the sound of Julia (or even better, Juliet), but it shortens so easily to Julie or Jewels, which I don’t care for as much, so I’d have to vote for Elise as well.

Elise is very pretty! I much prefer it to Julia. For some reason, Julia feels very clunky to me.

I really like Elise.
I don’t hate Julia, or its variants, but it wouldn’t be in the running for me. Just not my style. Think the only variant I like (or at least the only one I can think of) is Julisa.

I like Elise a lot! I always find it just right–the right balance of strength and sweetness (almost frilliness!) and spunk, but then, I try to pair it up and nothing seems quite right. :/ I love Elise for you, though; I think William, Alexander, and Elise are perfection! I think Liesey/Lisey is an ADORABLE nn, and Ella is sweet, too (I can’t get behind Ellie, I’m afraid!), but I like just Elise on its own. I would probably use Lisey for a little girl, though; I think it’s just the cutest thing ever.
I was prepared to vote for Julia, because I really love it, too, but now that I’m talking about Elise, I’m starting to lean toward that! I try to repress my love for it since Isabelle’s my top choice, and I feel like Elizabeth variants shouldn’t overrun my list (if I didn’t care, I’m sure Elise, Lisette, Eliza, Eliska, and Lillian would all be there!), but when I start to really think about it, I notice how truly great she is. Any MN ideas? I think that would sway me, one way or the other. If not, I really like Elise Susanna and Julia Charlotte for you…

Thanks so much for the feedback! I appreciate it!
@ashthedreamer, I haven’t really thought much about MNs yet. Maybe … (these are all names that have meaning for us, whether inherently or after someone we love … or of course Julia, which we just have liked for years) I’ll throw in my pseudo-surname for flow purposes.
Elise Julia (or maybe Juliana) Banderas
Elise Danielle/-ela Banderas
Elise Coraline Banderas
Elise Josephine/a Banderas
Elise Hope Banderas
Elise Clara Banderas

Elise Daniella has the best flow to me
PokeyNinjaParticipant3 weeks, 3 days ago
I like Elise Coraline best.
Elise Danielle/a is second on my list. (I like Elise Danielle better, but I like Daniella better with Banderas.)
Elise Juliana comes in third for me.

I like Elise Juliana, Elise Danielle/a, and Elise Josephine/a

I really like Elise!! But I definitely like Julia a lot more…. I feel like Julia is more timelessly beautiful, while Elise is cute and pretty, and great on a child, but harder to picture on a teen or adult.

omg i just logged on here to post about this name. you beat me to it. i met a beautiful girl the other day named elyse. i love it. i prefer the elise spelling. i think its so pretty, uncommon yet not weird, classy and sophisticated sounding. more appealing than julia. i wonder what sibling names could be paired with it.

Both Elise & Julia are beautiful & timeless names! I definitely prefer Elise over Elyse. My only issue with these names: I usually have a problem remembering when I meet someone if they are: Elise or Elisa / Julie or Julia-Same goes for Carolyn or Caroline, Christine or Christina, Isabelle or Isabella, Sophie or Sophia, Ellie or Ella, Tess or Tessa, etc.
