being so stubborn and set on getting your own way that you get physically sick? My middle daughter (4.5) is the wildest and most head strong of my crew. She also is the one who exhibits the most flu like symptoms from time to time. She can conjure up tears at the drop of a hat. Well last night, she and her older sister were fighting over something. She got kinda upset and was complaining of being cold, she got all pale and for the rest of the night acted sick. She woke up fine today.

Obviously it could just be a coincidence but my mom brought up the topic this morning and I just wondered if anyone had heard of this before, or if you totally think I’m off my rocker for even thinking this!

    Thanks!!

A person can definitely make themselves sick with strong emotions. As a child, I was frequently sick due to anxiety over social situations. Sometimes, I’d actually purposefully worry until I felt sick to avoid doing something. I’ve also had issues as an adult where I’ve unintentionally made myself ill with anxiety attacks (feeling dizzy, faint, queasy, blood pressure dropping, etc.). If your daughter gets herself worked up and stressed out when she doesn’t get her way, it’s very possible she could make herself sick.

A person can completely make themselves sick. My brother has the issue all the time. He gets so upset he “is” sick. He complains of migraines, body aches, nausea all of it.

He’s 16 so if you find a way to deal with it let me know. It should be added that he also has Aspergers.

Oh wow! I thought you all would say I’m crazy. And let me say that her “upset-ness” is ALWAYS dramatic. I don’t think she is as upset as she makes it seem. I guess she could still make her self “sick” on purpose so the attention goes to her since she didn’t get her way elsewhere???

I’ve known kids who could cry at the drop of a hat, or make themselves throw up on command, but hers sounds like more of a reaction she can’t control.

Maybe she’ll be an actress ;-)

My daughter used to practice crying in front of the mirror when she was not yet two. I think we may have our work cut out for us.

Embra, my daughter did that too! She still does practice all kinds of crazy faces to match any emotion imaginable, when she thinks no one is around. It cracks me up!

when Gigi was a toddler she would pass out when she got really worked up. the Dr said it was a combination of pressure from crying and not breathing.

stress can also cause it. when i was a child i had chronic stomach problems due to stress i also did not sleep well b/c of it and lack of sleep can do all kinds of things.
