What do people think of this one?
Is the similarity to the place ‘Sicily’ an issue for you?

It’s okay, and the fact it’s similar to a place isn’t really the problem. It’s just I heard a joke/play on words, so every time I hear Cecily or Sicily, I can only hear ‘So silly’. I don’t think it’s obvious, but it bugs me a bit, and I can’t get it out of my head. But I do love Thessaly, which is really similar.

Ooh, Thessaly is interesting!! Do you know anything about it?
I’ve never realised the ‘so silly’ thing…

I don’t know much, but Thessaly actually is a place name; it’s a region in Greece. I found it in my Greek myths book that’s got a map of Ancient Greece. I thought it would be a pretty cool name. There’s more about it on Nameberry too.

I like it too! I think Thessaly is also nice because I like the nn Tess or Tessa, but am not wild about Theresa as a full name.

I like it. I personally like Cecilia or Celia better; Cecily sounds a little bit preppy and cutesy to me, but not bad.

    I love Cecily.

Also quite like the suggestion of Thessaly, which then reminded me of Athaly.

i dont really think much of it. i pronounce it like sicily but it doesnt remind me of the place. i think cecelia is prettier. but i dont love that either. i think cecily is cool and vintagey sounding and could come into fashion. it kind of sounds like silly. but not really. its a useable name.

Hey! That’s my name – different spelling though. I must say I love being named Cecillie.
I do prefer my spelling but it gets misspelled a lot – Cecille… and it drives me crazy.

I think Cecillie is a really pretty spelling, @CecillieMarie! I don’t think I’ve seen that before.
