Just curious; when do you do back-to-school shopping for your kids? With preschool we didn’t get the lists until right before the school year started. I’m not sure when we’ll get them for elementary school but I’m already seeing back-to-school sales and deals advertised so I started to wonder if I should start stocking up!

We’ve never had lists for preschool. Is that common? I’m the type of person who likes to buy early, though. I’ve already been checking for fall/winter clothes since I know Ethan has outgrown last year’s stuff. I also hate the last minute mega-crowds, so I’d buy early if you see good sales and have some idea what they’ll need.
Usually we shop when the big back-to-school sales start, usually in late July. That’s when you can get crayons for like $.25 and other great deals.
@Inga, we had a list at the first preschool they went to but not the one they went to this past year. Not sure if it’s common.
I should probably try to find out when the list comes out.
CLothing-wise, I think they’re in good shape other than needing new sneakers by then. Especially now that they are in size 5/6, clothes last them a while. Will’s talented at putting holes in the knees of all the jeans though (somehow he manages to get to all Alex’s jeans, too :/ ) so I’ll have to buy them new jeans when the time comes. Too hot for those here till October though!

we can get our lists online anytime, though the teachers sometime have request lists that you can only use once you get your teacher assignment which happens about a month before school starts. we have a tax free weekend here. some times we do that, but often we dont b/c i do not like the crowds. people suck.
we’re very glad to be back in the south so we dont have to buy everone parkas and snow pants this year!
it is the first year we’re shopping for all three girls and the older two are going to need alot clothes wise. Poor Alley is going to need capri’s. she’s so tall even modest shorts would come up above her middle finger so she cant wear them to school. in ohio they didnt care but here in NC they will send your butt home or make you wear something out of the school closet. yuck!
I wait until I see the big sales, I like paying .25 cents for crayons instead of $1.19! Like Gaamy, I can go online and get the list any time! As far as clothes, she wears a uniform, and still fits last years uniforms, but they were too big for her last year, and they were the smallest uniforms they sold! And with her under garments, her Aunt always buys her underwear and socks for her birthday, which is two weeks before school starts! I did buy a shift and a pair of pants in case she grows out of the ones from last year, but that was it!
Around here, some of the stores like Walmart gets the lists from public schools and puts them out for the customers when their big sales start! My daughter goes to private school! And their lists don’t change too much from year to year!
Clothingwise, I’ll get Morgan a few cute new outfits, but she goes back on Aug 7, so it’s too early to buy a bunch of fall and winter clothes in fear she’ll outgrow them!
Wow, I thought Kaylyn started early on August 21! August 7, really?
I did find a school supply list online! Apparently our district recently created universal lists for each grade level across all schools, so that makes it easier!

What lists do you mean? For school supplies like pencils and binders, or do they give you a list of appropriate clothing as well? I was surprised to find that a lot of the elementary schools around here have dress codes that exclude even tank tops, the shoulders of kindergarteners being apparently so sexually provocative. No open toed shoes or sandals either although perhaps that is a safety thing. It’s hard in a place that is quite warm for most of the year though. We live in flip flops.
We have a no tank top rule too. Sandals and flip flops are okay as long as they have sneakers for recess and gym class. I still let Morgan wear some tanks and sleeveless tops, just not any that are spaghetti straps. Because that is the stupidest rule ever, IMO, and no one has said anything. Otherwise, she can’t wear any of her cute summer dresses that she loves. I can see a rule not to have bra straps showing for older girls in tanks with skinny straps, but that’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
I haven’t seen any dress codes yet, though I’m sure we’ll have plenty of clothes that will work. The one I found is a school supply list.

My girls go back at the end of August. I take the supply lists each pay day (I get paid every two weeks) and gradually get the supplies. Ryley will need a lot in the way of clothes…she tears her clothes up :-/.
Delaney will only need a few things until the weather cools off. I was smart and bought them sneakers last year when Sears had a great deal on sketchers.
Their dress code allows tank tops but the straps have to be four fingers wide (their fingers). Ryleys shoes can be open-toed but have to have an ankle strap. Delaney starts at the middle school this year, I haven’t seen her new dress code yet…but I’m guessing it’s pretty much the same as the elementary school.

We got school supplies this past week. It was so fun taking the girls shopping. Oldest starts kindergarten in August 18 and middle one starts kindergarten August 21.
