I mentioned this in another thread, but what do you all think of the name Atlas? It’s the name friends of ours have chosen for their baby boy who is due soon.

I think it has a cool sound to it, but I don’t think I could use it.

I’m not a huge fan. It’s gaining a lot of traction, but with the Greek mythology ties, I just think it’s way too much for one little boy to carry (pun intended, lol.) I know of someone who has a Henry Atlas, and I think something like that works quite well.

Yeah, I agree that it seems like a big name to carry. ;)
That and the first thing I think of is a book atlas, since that word is used a lot more commonly than the name. It has a coolness factor but I couldn’t use it either.

I don’t like common words for names, and to me an Atlas is a book of maps.

I think it’s pretty cool. Seems like something my husband would like.. I don’t think it has high teasing potential since most kids will probably only know google maps anyway lol. However, I did want to read it as “At Last” at first glance.

I wouldn’t use it myself, but wouldn’t be aghast if someone else used it. I’d worry though that the kid would end out being kind of wimpy and it would be a horrible joke, like a bouncer named Tiny.
