we have a daughter evangeline. 16 weeks pregnant with second child, sex unknown.

my husband’s #1 girl name is amelia. i like the name but childhood friend just name her daughther amelia. i have a niece name milla, i think it’s a bit similar. i just found out it’s a medical term for a baby born without limbs–eeks!

what’s everyone’s thoughts on the name? any similar names that will go well with evangeline?

I like Amelia. Do you see your friend that often? If your kids would be growing up together, it might be awkward to have the same name. If you rarely see each other and aren’t that close anymore, it might still be usable.

The funny thing is, the one little Evangeline I know actually has one sibling … a sister named Amelia!

I personally think that Evangeline is pretty gorgeous and grand-sounding and Amelia, to me, has much more of a plain vibe. It could work but I would kind of feel like Evangeline got the much prettier name. Maybe it’s just me; not sure if others feel that way but just putting it out there.

I like the Aurora suggestion. Some others I think could work are Clara, Madeleine, Juliet, Alessandra, Eleanor, Georgia, Mirabelle, Lucia, Genevieve … any of those appeal to you?

    Ariella
    Josephine (maybe too similar sounding?)
    Gwendolyn
    Seraphina
    Jaqueline
    Annabelle
    Danielle
    Kristina
    Jayden/Jayde

Personally I love Amelia, and I think Evangeline and Amelia would make a lovely pair. It’s only downfall (and the reason I may not use it myself) is that it’s becoming so popular.

    Some other suggestions:
    Alice
Amelie (I don’t love this as much as Amelia, but I do like that it’s less common)
    Annabelle
    Beatrice
    Julianna
    Penelope
    Rosalyn/Roselyn

Ooh, I love Amelia! And I think it sounds really nice with Evangeline. Never heard it used for a birth-defect. It’s a well-known name, I don’t think people would associate it with that much.

I wouldn’t worry about it being the same name as your friend’s daughter, unless you;re still really close, but it is rather similar to Milla, who you’d probably see or talk about more often. If that would bother you, look for a different name. If you can live with it, I think Amelia’s a lovely choice! And it has a lot of nickname potential too. Though I also really love the suggestion of Aurora!
