Adalyn or Addison ?

I’ve just joined this website and am after a little advice!

Do you prefer Adalyn or Addison? (Spellings aren’t set in stone, and either way her nickname would probably be Addy/Addie.) I like the sound of both and am having a really hard time picking between the two. Which do you like better?

I think both are cute, but of the two, I prefer Adalyn (as it’s fully feminine–I don’t tend to like unisex names on girls, seeing that I have one and don’t really appreciate the unisex nature of my name. Addison is one of the few unisex names I like on girls, but I still prefer the feminine Adalyn/Adelyn/Adeline). I like Adeline (add-eh-line) much more than Adalyn (add-ah-lyn, I’m assuming, yes?), though. But Adalyn is very sweet.

    Adelyn would be my pick!

To me, Addison is a boy’s name…so I naturally gravitate toward Adeline. But I prefer the classic, historic spelling Adeline to any of the newer trendier spellings. There are SO MANY Adalyn, Addelyn, Addylyns, etc. I don’t know why one wouldn’t go with the tried-and-true, non-confusing spelling like “Sweet Adeline”. Not only is it the “true” spelling with historical significance, but its less common now than the more “made up” spellings. That’s just my opinion. :-)

addison doesnt sound girly enough for me. it doesnt sound masculine either. i just dont care for it. but it could grow on me. i like that its strong sounding with a cute nn addy. i like addy. id choose adalyn over addison. it sounds trendy and made up but it has a softer sound. id really prefer adele or adelina over these.

Another really cool name with the nickname Addie/Addy is Adelia.

I really don’t like Addison, or any -son names, on girls, so I prefer Adalyn. Like ashthedreamer, though, I like Adeline (add-eh-line, not add-ah-lynn) a lot more.

I really don’t like either but if I have to pick I’ll go with Addison. Adalyn just looks and sounds very incomplete to me I guess because I like Madelyn/Madeline so much.

Thank you so much for your input! We’re leaning towards Adalyn/Adeline because it would be something that would suit her for her whole life (Addy when she’s little and Adeline when she’s older). Addison might not age so well, especially on a girl.

ashthedreamer – I think I prefer Adeline over Adalyn, too! My other spelling option was Adalen.

Adeline is better than Adalyn IMO. I also like Adelaide if you’d consider that too.
