  • Additional Info:
This name was created by George du Maurier for the heroine of his 1894 horror novel 'Trilby'. Trilby O'Ferrall is a tone-deaf artist's model transformed into an acclaimed singer by the hypnotist Svengali, so there may be some joke with the word 'trill' in the name. The novel was turned into a play, and a type of felt hat with a deeply creased crown made popular by the production became known as a trilby. This is its main association and Trilby is now rarely used as a name.
