From the Latin 'servitium', a religious vocabulary word meaning "service/ceremony of God". This name - also remindful of the Latin noun 'servus' ("slave") and modern French verb 'servir' ("to serve") - is more popular than its masculine form Servan, but was never largely used. St Servan was a missionary of the 6th century who died in Brittany.
