Rhea is the Latin form of the Greek name Rheia. In Greek mythology, Rheia was a Titan, the sister and wife of Chronos, and the mother goddess who gave birth to many of the other major gods and goddesses. The name is most likely a form of 'era' (earth), although it has also been related to 'rheos' (stream). In Roman mythology, the mother of the legendary founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus, is said to be a woman named Rhea Silvia.
