  • Additional Info:
From a classical Greek name, derived from Greek 'myron' (myrrh).
Myrrh is a red-brown dried sap of a tree native to Somalia and the eastern parts of Ethiopia.

The name was borne by a famous sculptor of the 5th century BC.
It was taken up with particular enthusiasm by the early Christians because they associated it with the gift of myrrh made by the three kings to the infant Christ, and because of the association of myrrh with death and eternal life.

The name was borne by various saints, notably a 3rd-century martyr and a 4th-century bishop of Crete.
