Milena is a name with several origins and is used in several different cultures and countries.

It is a derivitave or the male Milan, a name which comes from the Celtic Medelhan, meaning "in the middle of the plain". Milan is the latinate form.

Milena is als a popular pet form of several different Slovak names that contain the element "mil" meaning "gracious" or "grace". It is probably known best, and most popularly, in this form.

Aside from both of these derivations, there is the Hawaiian form of the name Myrna, which is also Milena. Myrna is an anglicised form of the Irish/Gaelic name, Muirne, which basically means "beloved".
