Variant spelling of May, possibly influenced by Maeve.
Maé [mah-AY] is a French name that has been increasingly popular in the past decade. Of uncertain derivation, Maé could simply be a French take on "Mae". It might also be related to Mael, from the Breton meaning "prince", or Maéva - a popular name in France which comes from a Polynesian word meaning "welcome". Some also suggest that it is in fact a derivation of Marie.
Maé has also been used on boys, most likely as a variant spelling of Mahé (a name related to Matthew). |
