Huia were birds endemic to New Zealand. The huia was revered and consider sacred by the Maori. When Europeans came to New Zealand they too considered the birds something special and unfortunately the popularity of huia feathers with Europeans led to the huia's extinction. Part of New Zealand still have rumours or myths of the huia living in isolated parts of the country.
