In Greek mythology Galatea was a sea-nymph. Galatea was also the name of Pygmalion's statue of the ideal woman who eventually comes to life. The name is rare in modern usage. In 1952 the Spanish artist Salvador Dalí created his famous painting 'Galatea of the Spheres' using (as he often did) his wife, popularly known as Gala, as his model. |
