    From the Greek Evandros, which is derived from 'andros' (manly). In Roman mythology, Evander was a deific culture hero who brought the Greek pantheon, laws and alphabet to Rome sixty years before the Trojan War. Evander was born to Mercury and Carmenta, and his wisdom was beyond that of all Arcadians.

    Evander is also an anglicized form of the Scottish name Iomhar, and sometimes seen as a cognate of Evan.
