    In Greek mythology Elektra (otherwise known as Electra) was a daughter of King Agamemnon of Mycenae and his wife Clytemnestra. The king 'killed' her sister, Iphigeneia, in order to please the goddess Artemis so his ships could sail to Troy. The Queen, Clytemnestra, swore to never forgive him. When the King returned from the sacked city of Troy with his new slave and mistress Cassandra, Clytemnestra and her lover Aigisthos killed them both in cold blood. Elektra then aided her only brother Orestres to flee and later return to avenge their father's death.

    Electra is one of the nine brightest stars in the Pleiades star cluster, in the constellation of Taurus. It is also the name of a bicycle company and has been the name of several ships and airplanes.

    The Buick Electra and the Buick Electra 225 are full-size premium automobiles built by the Buick division of General Motors and used by Buick between 1959 and 1990.

    The Electra complex is a concept found in Psychoanalytic theory that attempts to address issues of female development much like the Oedipus Complex in males.
