  • Additional Info:
Damian has suffered from its association with the film The Omen (the character Damien Thorn is the child antichrist, which is never a great way to start out). However, the name actually comes from the Greek meaning 'to tame', and belonged to a third century Christian martyr. Twins Saint Cosmas and Saint Damianos refused payment to heal the sick in Syria and converted many to their faith before being killed under the emperor Diocletian's persecution. Despite the devil associations, Damian was the 136th most popular name for boys in the US in 2006.

St. Damian is the patron saint of barbers, druggists and chemical workers.
