    Bodhi is an abstract noun in Pāli and Sanskrit meaning the “awakened” or “knowing” consciousness of a fully liberated yogi, and generally translates into English as “enlightenment.” The Bodhi tree is a large fig tree under which the founder of Buddhism received enlightenment.

    Bodhi was the name of Patrick Swayze’s character in the 1991 film “Point Break.”

    It has been used by actress Amy Brenneman, actor Oliver Hudson and celebrity chef Tom Colicchio for their sons.
