  • Additional Info:
In Greek mythology Arethusa was a nymph who turned into a fountain after Alpheus tried to seduce her and she sought the protection of Artemis. Artemis hid Arethusa in a cloud, but Alpheus followed and Arethusa started to sweat in panic, turning into a stream. Artemis let Arethusa escape into a crack in the ground in hope of still escaping from Alpheus. Arethusa then ended up as a fountain in Ortygia, although Alpheus had mixed with her waters while in the ocean.
