From the name Asenath. Neith was the Egyptian equivalent of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom. This is a very old name, known to have existed in Egypt as long as four thousand years ago. In Biblical tradition, Asenath was the daughter of Potiphera, a priest. Pharaoh married her to Joseph, by whom she had two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. The name Acenith is also referred to as an "African goddess of love", although Neith and Acenith are probably referring to the same entity, and the names have become separated with the passage of time.
