Ha ha, same here! About people saying I look like that. People have told me that I look Spanish, Italian, Jewish, and Indian. Rolling Eyes
My dad is half European Spanish-Ecuadorian, and half German. My mom is half German and half Dutch. She also has Lenni Lenape blood (which is an Indian tribe).
My Dad's Great-Uncle Adolph (no relation to Hitler) came to the US before WWII, and he had a butcher shop, but had to shut it down during WWII because nobody would buy anything from a German.

I am German, but very little German. I never got the Nazi question, but my maiden name was always made fun of and mispronounced. It's only a name. I do know German though from studying it, but no fluent. It's easier for me to understand it than speak it.

I am about 1/4 German. The majority of my paternal grandma's family is from Germany, some of them are still over there I think. So we get the "Nazi" question alot. I don't think I've ever been asked if I'm related to Hitler though Confused

I'm about half German - from my dad's side. Our family has been in the US for generations, but just about all my ancestors on my dad's side are from Germany.

I'm also part Canadian and part Portuguese. And probably lots of parts of other stuff that I just don't know!

That makes me laugh because my husband is Half-Indian Jewish with an Indian Jewish mother and an english Jewish father. People spend ages trying to work it out. Then they all get shocked because they didn't know you could get Indian Jews!!!!

As for me I was born in Germany but I haven't lived there since I was 4. I actually have a British passport though. I can speak ok German but I understand a lot more than I speak! At school in England some kids used to take the mick and call me Kraut & a Nazi, even tho I am technically British! Mostly it didn't bother me though cos they weren't trying to be mean & cos it hardly ever got mentioned.

My dad's side of the family originated from Germany. My grandma actually made me a photo album for my Birthday one year and it has lots of really old pictures in it. I have a picture of a relative named Katherine that was taken in 1910 when her family still lived in Germany. I have another pic of a really big group of relatives still in Germany. It's pretty neat really. Razz

I never get the "are you related to Hitler", etc. I usually get the bad impression of the German language. I don't think it's a secret that a lot of people don't find the German language to be especially attractive, so I usually hear that.

Is anyone else here German? I am 1/2 German, half French. Everytime someone asks what nationality I am and I say German, they ask stupid questions like "Oh, was your grandpa a Nazi?" or "Are you related to Hitler?". I mean, hello! Not every single German was a Nazi, and my last name isn't even Hitler! Does any one else have these problems?

If your only 1/2 German why do you tell people that your nationality is German? why not say your French? A friend of mine always stated that she was Greek but only her father was Greek. Her mom was Ukranian. I don't get it! Just wondering why a person chooses just the one nationality over the other.

I think you misunderstood me. I don't say that I'm just German, I also say French, but when they hear "German" they ask dumb questions.

I'm about 1/9741334548345462 German. I can trace some sort of German ancestry, but it's about 15 generations back, and I never thought much about it.

I know about 15 words in German, because I took German in elementary school. Du habst Donnerwetter?

Lol, sorry I can't speak German Laughing . Well, I know hi and stuff, and "lederhosen" means "leather pants", but that's about it. I am fluent in French, though!
