I'm 100% German, born and raised in Bavaria. I have a strong accent so those who know me know where I'm from without me having to explain anything. I have gotten a few questions about my ancestor's politics, and even my own politics, but they are rare.

Evil or Very Mad That makes me so angry. Thought people might actually grow a sense of perspective or reason but oh well. I am not German but a good school friend, Julia, had a hard time when she first moved. She got that rubbish too - but she was so cool and collected about it. Never flinched and never retorted.

I stayed with Germans when I was in Spain last year. I watched German TV, and the only thing I could understand was the music channel (because there was primarily English music Wink ). Germans are cool.

OT: Hey Bismarck, I met a girl when I was in the UK who was a decendent of Bismarck! Her mother was a princess in Germany.

I'm 100% German and I also live in Germany but I have spent about 3 years in the USA. I know what you mean about everyone associating Germans with nazis. I think I was very lucky back then that I had absolutely no accent so everybody thought I was American.

I'm technically German - all four of my grandparents were born in Germany, but moved to England when they were children, just before the war. I've never had any questions like that, but I guess that might be because I'm Jewish, and look it. Smile Actually, people never seem to know where I'm from... I've been told I look Spanish, Italian, Egyptian (!), French, Turkish, Israeli, South American and Indian. (Not so sure about that last one). It's fun!

If your only 1/2 German why do you tell people that your nationality is German? why not say your French? A friend of mine always stated that she was Greek but only her father was Greek. Her mom was Ukranian. I don't get it! Just wondering why a person chooses just the one nationality over the other.

I'm part German. I've only gotten the "Are you related to Hitler?" thinking maybe once or twice. But I totally agree with you. People are definitely stupid and shallow for thinking all Germans were Nazis or Hitler lovers.

I think a look like Confused or this Shocked may help some of them realize how stupid a question that is.

I'm German! My mom was born in Germany and moved over here when she was about 8 or 9. I love being German. I love the language and the food and everything about it.

My greatgrandfather did fight for the Germans in the world wars, but my family was not Nazis!!!! He had to fight for Germany, he was in the army and Hitlers men told anyone that didn't want to fight for Germany that they would come into their homes and nail their familys tongues to the floor and set the house on fire. Sad

My greatgrandmother actually almost got in trouble for helping Jews. When the German soldiers came through town my great gma would do their laundry in return for food and then she would give the food to two Jewish families that were in hiding and she almost got caught!
