Isn't Viggo from LOTR? I can't quite remember, it seem rather Elvish, though. Torben is awkward and unapealing, Randver is actually nice-sounding, but not a real name.

Guess which one doesn't fit... Walter is a nice name, though.

Viggo is a Scandinavian name, and the name of an actor who played in LOTR. I didn't think of useing it I heard someone else had named their son Viggo. But this wasn't in the USA.

And applause to me for finding a nice name that sounds made up! Randver is actually and old scandinavian name which means "holy shield". It's pretty used in the Baltic countries, but then as Randveras to fit their grammar.

I apologise then, on the part of Randver, it wasn't at BTN, and I never heard it used, so I assumed it was made-up Embarassed

i think too many people on this site use BehindTheNames as the "oh most holy" reference to baby names, and automatically assume that any other name must be made up.... just an observation, not pointing fingers at anyone... i for one appreciate the "oops" and the apology

I don't mind it sounding made up though. It makes it unique. And since the name is totally foreign, I think most people assume it is made up. How many people know every ancient Scandinavian name or kinda-common Baltic name?

But BHT is definately NOT holy. For some languages they only have 10 or less names. Shocked

That's interesting, I looked on it the other night, and they actually don't have a whole lot of Polish names, either, they missed a lot of popular or important ones. I still see BTN as a good source for names used in English.

I use BTN to look up the meaning of most names. But not as a database for potential names. I doubt there are really only 8 names Thai people use. Shocked

Let's get back on topic people!

Viggo - *sigh* Me loves me some Viggo, I does! He totally turns my brain to mush. Viggo is a great name (biased), but really only if this is a name that is normally used within your culture.

Torben - It's alright, reminds me of A Doll's House for some reason. Hm...

Randver - Don't really like the sound of it. I think there are better names than this.

Walter - Love it! The best on your list actually.
