Nipple stimulation?

Haydens_momma was going to the hospital today to be induced and attempt to start labor with nipple stimulation im wondering if anyone knows how the hospital goes about doing this? I dont think they just tell you to just start playing with your nipples so, does anyone know what they do tell you?

Yes, Proudmommy you were not supposed to be posting today! You were supposed to be busy having a baby!

As for the nipple stimulatoins. not sure how they do it, could be manual could be some sort of pump method, not sure.

However, they say nipple simulatoin with intent do induce labor should not be done at home as it can bring on labor on VERY quickly in some women, ie fast enough and hard enough that they dont have time to get to the hospital.

Not sure just what I feel about that...honestly I might just try it at home too, though not unless my mom is around. (Lord that sounds odd..no playing with my nipples unless Mom is close at hand ROFL)

Nipple stimulation
Some women massage their nipples as a way to induce labor. This stimulation brings about the release of oxytocin, which is the natural form of pitocin. Oxytocin causes contractions, which sometimes evolve into labor.

Most practitioners are not enthusiastic about this method of inducing labor, because it has been known to lead to excessively long, strong uterine contractions sometimes resulting in fetal heart rate slowing. Unless your practitioner advises it and is monitoring your progress closely, nipple stimulation is not recommended as a means for beginning labor.

From what I have read, they keep you at the hospital for monitoring. Because of the extended contractions that can be caused, they want to watcht he baby's heartrate.

I tried this at home, even though it says you are not supposed to. I got bored though and just gave up. You are supposed to play with your nipples for 20 minutes and then take a 15 minute break, then 20 minutes ... and on and on. I figured if it DID start strong contractions ... then I would go up to the hospital. But like I said, I got bored after the first set of 20 minted ... lol!

Yea thats why i was asking what they do at the hospital even though i know i wasnt supposed to i also tried it and got overly bored. Yes i know this baby was supposed to be here but yea know im beginning to think shes a little stubborn. Actually im beginning to think that she is not coming at all Exclamation

Well yesterday i turned being induced down but, im tempted to go pick up the phone and schedule. Well we will see how today goes even though i can already guess as to how its going to go....Its not. Anyways good luck to the close ladies i hope you dont get as irritated with the baby business as i am Very Happy

But then you still don't get more than one set of 20 minutes because it leads to sex ... which luckily enough is also a natural inducer!
