Does anyone know how brain freeze scientifically happens and why? I was having ice cream with my dad the other day and he got one, which got me thinking. Now I am really curious and this is bothering me. Thanks for the input
The reaction is triggered by the cold from the substance consumed coming into contact with the roof of the mouth while the individual eats it. It triggers nerves that give the brain the impression of a very cold environment. To return warmth to the brain, blood vessels start to swell, which causes the pain for, typically, around 30 seconds.
u know...i've never had a brain freeze lol! people always eat cold stuff infront of me and end up going "arrgghh brain freeze" and it always sorta baffles me coz i have no idea what they're going through! am i just odd?
