So essentially the term "ghetto names" just applies to minorities in impoverished neighborhoods and the names they give their children.
All of this "it's not ghetto because i have that name and i'm white" just makes this post 1,000 times more condescending than it originally was.

sweetie I wasn't trying to offend anyone. I'm black and from an impoverished area myself. I'm just saying that name isn't something I personally see as ghetto. That was my personal opinion, and I'll apologize upfront for offending anyone because that wasn't my intention. I was merely stating what I thought, and I'm sorry if I offended you.

Thanks Adalen that Is what Im trying to say, and thats why I dont like this post, because like I said before it is way to opinionated. And not eveyone is from a highclass area, some people do struggle and people fail to realize that so they say whatever they want

I found that to be offensive too. "Ghetto" does not mean "non-white" to me. It means people living in a cycle of economic disadvantage. I think people in that situation should be working in their communities to break that cycle.
As a person of mixed heritage, I feel prejudice from more than one camp, and no real acceptance from either. I think we should be proud of our heritage, while embracing our common culture.
Being a person of color in America has enough challenges associated with it. One shouldn't burden a child further with a peculiar, made-up name. I think poor little Sha'quayquay in the projects has enough to overcome. Her mama should give her a little boost up and name her sensibly (and try to teach and model standard spoken English, but that's another topic). Let's not make things worse for our babies by naming them laughably!

Again, I want to apologize for offending anyone. I honestly didn't mean to I was just offering my opinion. It's become clear that by doing that I offended people when I didn't intend to, and I'm sorry.

i've always wondered what a "ghetto" name is.. if it just means they are made-up and different sounding, then i kind of like them ! i dont understand why no one likes these kind of names |
I think well people that I know in the AA community who are educated, over the age of 25, and didnt have kids at 15 laugh at these names b/c many are made up as you say and downright misspelled! Ive heard of people (and I know you all know them) who name their kids after popular drinks. Add La, Na's and Sha's before and after their names etc etc. In the 70's there was a movement to start naming our children unique names and people just have taken it too far imo. A name like Bravonte for example will most likely not get as many call backs for a job like the name Aiden or John. There are studies. A name like LaQuan or D'Shawn is in my mind an AA name. Why not give these people names where they can get their foot in the door and I'm not talking about in France or Quebec. There are just good and bad names period.
